As Missouri’s State Treasurer, I’m proud to join people across our state and nation in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) this October. This year marks the 80th anniversary of NDEAM—a time to recognize the skills, creativity, and determination that people with disabilities bring to the workplace, and to renew our commitment to opportunity for everyone. It is also a chance to thank employers, families, and communities who encourage people with disabilities to achieve their goals and share their talents.
The 2025 theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” highlights how much stronger our workplaces and communities become when we recognize the strengths that people with disabilities bring every day. Their persistence, creativity, and problem-solving skills enrich teams across every field. Across Missouri, people with disabilities are making a difference in every part of our economy. Their ideas and commitment help Missouri move forward and serve citizens more effectively.
At the Treasurer’s Office, I’m especially proud of our MO ABLE Program, which helps Missourians with disabilities and their families save and invest for the future without losing important supports such as SSI and Medicaid. Since 2017, MO ABLE has helped thousands of people plan for their futures with confidence and financial security. It can be used for needs like housing, education, transportation, health care, and assistive technology—helping families build independence and peace of mind.
When all Missourians have the chance to reach their potential, we strengthen our communities and our shared sense of purpose. Through open hiring, supportive workplaces, and helpful programs like MO ABLE, we are building a stronger Missouri that sees ability—not limitation.
This month and every month, let’s celebrate the value and talent that people with disabilities bring to our state. Together, we can make Missouri a place where everyone has the chance to succeed.
