Belle Lady Tiger volleyball clinches share of GVC title

Losing to Steelville in four sets earlier this month, Kaci Jones’ Belle Lady Tiger volleyball team got another shot at the Lady Cardinals last Thursday night with some added motivation.

A victory in their rematch over Steelville would create a three-way tie for the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) volleyball title between Belle, Steelville and Cuba.

Falling behind two sets to one on their home court, Belle won the next two sets and the match securing at least a share of their second consecutive GVC volleyball title after a five-set win over Steelville by scores of 25-22, 14-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 15-9.

Lydia Jones served up six aces to lead the Lady Tigers followed with two aces each from Hayden Fann and Saige Garner.

Adalyn Walters, Zoe Camden and Chloe Jones also served an ace apiece in the match against Steelville.

Adding to her team-high six aces, Lydia Jones also registered 19 kills to go along with  nine each from Walters and Chloe Jones.

Hadassah Carman also added five kills for the Lady Tigers against the Lady Cardinals.

Carman and Lydia Jones led Belle with two blocks each against Steelville.

Saige Garner dished out a team-high 16 assists while Camden also reached double digits in assists with 14.

Five Lady Tigers posted double-digit totals in digs led by Lydia Jones with 18.

Garner added 16 to go along with 13 digs from Walters and 11 digs apiece out of Chloe Jones and Camden.

Carman (8) and Kennady Kinkead (3) rounded out Belle’s Lady Tigers damage in the dig department.

Hosting Bourbon last Tuesday on senior night, Belle dropped the first set of varsity action before going on to win the next three sets and the match by scores of 22-25, 25-6, 25-13 and 25-16.

Garner, Walters and Carman were recognized prior to the varsity match and after the JV match which Belle dropped in three sets 25-20, 18-25 and 25-23.

Carman served up a team-leading six aces for Belle followed by five from Chloe Jones and four from Lydia Jones.

Garner and Walters each added a pair of aces apiece for the Lady Tigers.

Lydia Jones led Belle against Bourbon with 13 kills followed in double digits by Chloe Jones’ 11 kills.

Walters nearly made it three in double-digits kills finishing with nine.

Adding to her two aces, Garner led the Lady Tigers on senior night with 18 digs and 17 assists.

Walters also reached double digits in digs with 13.

During Saturday’s Belle Volleyball Tournament, the host Lady Tigers ran the table in pool play sweeping Dixon (25-15, 25-11) and Bourbon (25-14, 25-20) to advance to the championship match against Cuba who needed a sweep of North Callaway to avoid a possible three-way tie in the black pool.

In their previous two meetings, Belle defeated at home in four sets back in mid-September before recently falling to the Lady Wildcats on the road in three sets last Monday night.

During the rubber match, Belle was not able to establish an offensive rhythm before settling for second place in their home tournament after a two-set loss by scores of 25-12 and 25-17 to Cuba.

Walters and Garner both served up an ace for Belle in the championship match while Lydia Jones led the Lady Tigers with four kills.

Camden dished out a team-high five assists while Carman and Lydia Jones each had five digs.

In pool play against Bourbon, Carman led the Lady Tigers with five aces while Lydia Jones also recorded five kills.

Both players also recorded a block each for Belle against the Lady Warhawks.

Garner dished out a team-high four assists while Carman posted a team-leading six digs for Belle against Bourbon.

Opening pool play against Dixon, Chloe Jones racked up nine aces to go with a team-leading six kills from Walters.

Adding to her team-high four assists against Bourbon, Garner led the Lady Tigers with seven assists and four digs against Dixon.
