Belle city council meetings

To the Editor:

I try to attend all the city meeting both regular and special called. What concerns me is the special meeting scheduled for June 26 that was canceled on the City of Belle FB page the same day. When I went to the Council Meeting on July 11 the agenda had a line item to approve minutes for a special session for June 28. This was the opening night of the Belle Fair. Question, why would you hold the special meeting on that day. When I asked why the rescheduled date was not given on the city’s FB page, like the cancellation I was told it was posted at city hall. Why isn’t the city being more consistent by putting both the meeting schedules and cancellations on their FB page for all to see. Not everyone goes to look at the postings on the city hall door every day. I read them when I  pay my water bill, I check the City of Belle FB page each day. Personally, I wonder how much input some council members want from citizens.

With all the technology we have available today, why shouldn’t we be able to hear clearly what the city council is discussing in the city meetings. For the most part, all you hear is low volume speaking among themselves. Not sure if this is intentional or just poor acoustics, When I asked the city council if they would check into a PA system, the mayor said it has been this way for 60 years and went to the next topic on the agenda. After the July 11 meeting, I came home and listened to the meeting on FB, the sound was terrible. There were six comments on the FB page, all stating the sound was bad. I believe as citizens of Belle, we deserve to hear what is being discussed in city meetings.
