BELLE — An unexpected order for continuance was granted on June 27 in the case of Daryl White, Jr., the former Belle mayor charged on Dec. 21, 2023, with misdemeanor stealing and official misconduct. A 9 a.m. trial setting on Aug. 8 has been scheduled in Phelps County with Judge William E. Hickle.

White is charged with two class A misdemeanors — stealing and official misconduct — for a Sept. 26 incident. According to a probable cause statement from the Maries County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 20, 2023, White allegedly “stole product from the City Road Department Garage” and is “believed to be misusing the city’s credit card again.”

White was due to appear on June 21 in Hickle’s 25th Circuit Court. Neither he nor his attorney Thomas J. Kirsch were present on Webex.

Missouri Attorney General Associate Attorney Gregory Michael Goodwin was present and shared with Hickle that a non-trial option was not negotiated. During that time, Hickle agreed to keep the July 10 trial date with the understanding that if the parties needed anything they would reach out.

Also on June 21, Goodwin filed a supplemental discovery in Hickle’s 25th Circuit Court in Maries County. It was the last filing recorded in the case before it was sent to Phelps County. According to public records, the discovery included a, “Business Record Affidavit and invoice from Kimball Midwest.”

According to Missouri Case.net, the new case number is 24PH-CR00616 in the 25th Circuit Court records in Phelps County.

On June 27, both Goodwin and Kirsch met via Webex with Hickle to discuss the upcoming trial.

According to Missouri Case.net, “the parties agree that additional discovery is needed and that the case will not be ready for trial on July 10.”

The case has been reset to 9 a.m. on Aug. 8 for trial setting only. All counsel are permitted to appear by Webex on that date if desired or may provide alternative available dates in writing by that date.
