Vienna youth basketball programs shine in Sullivan 3 on 3 tournament

VIENNA — Vienna’s youngest athletes took the court this week in Sullivan at the Annual 3 on 3 Youth Basketball Tournament, bringing energy, a glimpse into the future, and a reminder to everyone that Vienna’s youth pipeline is active.

Every level of youth basketball was represented. VES Girls fielded two teams, VES Boys competed with a strong showing and VMS Boys added to the competitive presence. From the smallest jerseys to the middle school veterans, Vienna made its presence known.

The highlight of the weekend came from the Elementary Boys squad, who fought their way to a second-place finish. In a fast-paced 3 on 3 format that emphasizes spacing, ball handling and decision-making, the young Eagles showed composure beyond their years. Their runner-up performance reflects not just skill, but growing confidence.

While official stats are not part of the 3 on 3 format, the tournament served a larger purpose. It provided development. It provided reps and the tournament provided a stage for Vienna’s youth to compete outside the regular season structure.

With multiple elementary teams competing and middle school programs continuing to build, the foundation of Vienna basketball appears strong. These tournaments are often where future varsity leaders first begin to separate themselves, learning how to communicate, how to adjust and how to compete when possessions are limited.

Yes, results matter, but growth matters more. While the varsity spotlight may shine brightest in February, the work often starts here.
