Vienna Middle School track teams 2nd in Fatima event

The Vienna Middle School track team opened its schedule with a solid performance in the Fatima Middle School Blue and Gold Meet Saturday, March 28 at Westphalia.

Vienna finished second in the team standings in both the boys’ and girls’ meets.

In the boys’ meet Linn won with 163 points while Vienna was second with 134. In the girls’ meet host Fatima won with 182 points while the Lady Eagles were second with 138.

For the Vienna boys, Eli Messersmith won two open events for Vienna, taking the 800-meter run at 2:25 and the 1,600-meter run at 5:30. Messersmith also ran a leg on the winning 4x800-meter relay squad, which also included Tanner Hallahan, Coen Schwartze and Tanner James in a time of 10:30.

Vienna’s other first place came from the 4x200-meter relay team of Weston Schwartze, Zachary Wansing, Drew Crum and Alex Wieberg at 1:49.82.

The Lady Eagles had four 1st-place finishes, from Marissa Fannon in the discus at 59-7; Rowan Walker in the high jump at 3-11 1/4; Grace Barnhart in the pole vault at 6-11 3/4, and the 4x200-meter relay squad of Candace Geissel, Autumn Wilkes, Fannon and Jasmine Covileac at 2:20.02.

This week the Eagles were to host the Vienna Middle School Open  p.m. Tuesday.
