James “Jim” A. Barton, 79, Fulton and formerly of Bland, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the Fulton Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on July 18, 1946, to the late Alton and Stella (Koch) Barton in Fenton,
He was a 1964 graduate of Bland High School, and went on to get his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln, his master’s degree from Missouri and his specialist degree in teaching.
Jim was united in marriage to Bonnie Rhodes on March 22, 1969, at the St Alexander Catholic Church in Belle. Bonnie survives of their home in Fulton.
He taught school for one year in Bland before being named principal where he served for three years. Following Bland, he served as principal in Warrenton, and as vice-principal in Fulton. Jim stayed in education before retiring after 27 years. He loved his job and getting the chance to help out the students and was his hope that all would graduate and live wonderful lives.
He was a member of Missouri Association of High School Secondary Principals, Phi Del Kapa, and the Missouri State Teachers.
He enjoyed deer hunting and watching St. Cardinals baseball.
Jim was a hard worker, often working seven days a week. His principal job through the week and weekends spent at his and Bonnies marina shop, Sports Unlimited.
He was caring, giving, and kind and always put others needs ahead of his own. Jim will be missed greatly by his family and those that knew and loved him.
Jim was preceded in death by parents, Alton and Stella; and brothers, Milton and Glennon Barton.
He is survived by wife, Bonnie; son, Jamie Barton, Jr. of Readsville; daughter, Julie Elizabeth Adamson and husband Rodney of Clarksville, Ga.; grandson, Justin Adamson and wife Kristina; great-grandchildren, Hollis and Reese; sisters, Patsy Tousant, Virginia Engelbrecht and Mary Williams; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 6, at the St. Alexander Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Michaels Cemetery.
