Dr. George G. Curtman, DVM, 82, Union, passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026.
He was born March 22, 1943, to the late Wendell “G.W.” and Virginia (Kleffner) Curtman in Meta.
He was united in marriage to Susan Skornia June 20, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Owensville.
After graduating from Owensville High School in 1960, George earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1965, followed by his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. Later that year, he moved his family to Union, where he founded the Union Veterinary Clinic, and began serving the community as both a large and small animal veterinarian. Over his 30-plus year career, George cared for animals throughout Franklin, Jefferson, Warren, Gasconade, St. Charles and St. Louis Counties.
He enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle and gardening on his farm.
During the summer months, George and his family traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada.
In retirement, he enjoyed outings with his cousins, relatives and many friends.
George loved all animals, but he had a special place in his heart for his border collies, his bloodhound and family cats.
He was preceded in death by parents, Wendell and Virginia; mother and father-in-law, Lena (Berger) and Francis Skornia; and sisters-in-law, Jeanie (Skornia) Mofield and Cathy Skornia.
George is survived by wife, Susan; daughter, Jane Curtman-Schroeder and husband Matthew of Washington; grandchildren, Rachel Portuondo and husband Nico and Claire Schroeder, all of Washington; great-grandchildren, Alejandro and Mateo Portuondo; brother,Wendell Curtman and wife Betty of Owensville; brother-in-law, Charles Skornia and wife Charlotte of Jefferson City; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
A Rosary service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 1, followed by visitation from 1:30 until 5 p.m., at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Owensville with Fr. Philip Kane officiating.
Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Owensville.
