Maries County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested two people from Belle and recovered $4,000 in stolen property after an all-night search on May 29 into May 30.
According to a Facebook post by Chief Deputy Scott John on Sheriff Chris Heitman’s page, the search occurred following a warrant issued to an address on Route M near Belle. The sheriff’s office notified the owners of the stolen property.
The sheriff’s office forwarded probable cause statements for both suspects to Maries County Prosecuting Attorney Tony Skouby.
In an update, the sheriff’s office announced that Benjamin Byrd, 44, and Demaris Mothershed, 32, both of Belle, had been charged with felony counts of receiving stolen property following a search warrant. They were held on $5,000 cash-only bonds in the Maries County Jail.
A neighbor of the suspects had reported about $4,000 worth of property stolen, including a collection of rare stamps. A friend of the neighbor found the items posted on Facebook Marketplace the day before deputies searched the property on Route M.
