Welcoming Tuscumbia’s Lady Lions to Belle High School last Tuesday night, first-year Lady Tiger head basketball coach Biance Stocks looked to get her first notch in the win column in front of the home fans.

Leading 15-5 after one quarter, Belle canned six 3-pointers helping them to a 39-15 halftime lead before cruising to a 71-29 victory over the visiting Lady Lions from Miller County.

“It feels great to get my first win in front of our home fans,” Stocks said. “We emphasize playing together as a team and if we can continue to do that, I believe we’ll have a successful season.”

It was not all a bed of roses for the Lady Tigers during the second quarter.

Saige Garner and Aubrey Rehmert both had three fouls before the end of the first half.

“I can live with playing aggressively and fouling, but we can’t have silly fouls that could potentially hurt us in games,” Stocks said.

In spite of the brief stretch of foul trouble, Belle was able to shoot their way to victory nailing 15 3-point shots.

Leading four Lady Tigers in double figures was senior Anastyn Lansford with 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Garner was next in double digits for Belle with 18 points, nine rebounds, five steals, two blocked shots and two assists.

Catching fire in the second quarter Ava Feeler finished with 15 points which included hitting four consecutive 3-point shots in the second quarter and one more for good measure in the third quarter.

Natalie Lansford flirted with a triple double in her high school basketball debut finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Senior Aubrey Rehmert added four points before fouling out at the 4:10 mark of the fourth quarter.

Weather and road conditions permitting, Belle is schedule to compete throughout the remainder of this week at the Eugene Girls Basketball Tournament.

First-round action originally scheduled for Monday night was rescheduled for last night (Tuesday) at 8 p.m., inside the Eugene Elementary School (EES) gym.
