VIENNA — Eastern District Commissioner Rodney Southard took the oath of office Monday at the Maries County Commission meeting.
He replaced Doug Drewel, who retired in January. Gov. Mike Kehoe appointed Southard on March 27, but because the term has more than one year remaining, the Senate had to confirm him before his May 4 swearing in could take place.
He attended a gubernatorial appointments committee hearing April 22, and the Senate gave its advice and consent the next day. County Clerk Rhonda Rodgers then had to wait to receive the official paperwork to swear him in.
During that time, Southard attended the meetings and contributed to the discussions but could not vote or sign official documents.
“It’s going to be nice. Good group of people to work with,” Southard said.
