Giving Belle Tiger head boys basketball coach Jeff Schultz his 200th win during their season opener at Linn, the red and white looked to move to 2-0 prior to the Thanksgiving Day holiday last Tuesday on the road against New Haven’s Shamrocks.
Nursing a 25-22 halftime lead, Belle was able to hold on to it in the second half during their 62-54 victory in Franklin County.
Catching fire in the second half, Tiger senior Hank Stratman led all scorers netting 17 of his game-high 22 points over the final 16 minutes of basketball.
Hitting four 3-pointers, Garrett Gehlert joined Stratman in double figures with 16 points.
Kelhen Struemph added eight points followed closely by the duo of Kooper Elrod and Hank Willis with six points apiece.
Luke Rohrer chipped in a fourth-quarter 3-pointer for three points while Chase Trainor rounded out the Tiger scoring at New Haven with a first-quarter free throw for one point.
Drew Gildehaus and Ben Gilbert each put in 13 points to lead the Shamrocks while Easton Bailey and Weston Hecktor also reached double figures with 10 points apiece.
Belle also captured the junior-varsity game 35-22 behind 15 points from Lathan Miller who hit for a dozen of those points in the first half.
Tucker Harris also reached double figures scoring eight of his 12 points in the first half.
Brayden Gibson and Braxton Ahart both added three points while Brayden Barzee rounded out the JV Tiger scoring with a first-quarter bucket for two points.
