Hosting Sullivan’s Eagles and Newburg’s Wolves on consecutive nights early last week, Jeff Schultz’s Belle Tiger basketball team looked to add two more notches to the win column in front of their home fans.
Posting a 68-50 victory last Monday night over Sullivan, Belle went for back-to-back victories hosting Newburg’s Wolves out of Phelps County.
Trailing 40-36 after three quarters, Belle came out on the wrong end of a 59-58 final score.
Garrett Gehlert led four Tigers in double figures with 21 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Kooper Elrod baked up 13 points and six rebounds while Hank Stratman netted 10 of his 12 points in the second half while also pulling down four rebounds.
Hank Willis rounded out the double-digit scoring quartet for the Tigers with a double double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Kelhen Struemph rounded out the Tiger scoring against Newburg with two points in the fourth quarter.
Gage Holderby led three Wolves in double figures with a game-high 23 points.
Belle took the JV game 51-37 behind 19 points from Tucker Harris who scored 13 of those in the first half.
Lathan Miller also reached double figures scoring nine of his 14 points in the second half.
Brayden Barzee made it a trio of JV Tiger double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Easton Schroeder added four points all in the third quarter followed closely with three points from Braxton Ahart all in the first quarter.
David Skaggs rounded out the JV Tiger scoring with a fourth-quarter free throw for one point.
Tigers vs. Sullivan
Welcoming Sullivan’s Eagles to Belle High School last Monday night, Schultz’s Tigers turned a 21-20 halftime deficit into a 68-50 victory behind a game-high double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds from Stratman.
Struemph scored all 16 of his points in the second half while Gehlert also netted all of his 11 points in the second half.
Elrod rounded out the double-digit scoring quartet for the Tigers with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Kaegan Kinsey and Willis each added six points to cap Belle’s scoring against Sullivan.
Peyton Malady led Sullivan with 17 points.
Belle also took the JV contest 44-30 over Sullivan’s JV Eagles behind 20 points from Miller with 15 of them coming in the second half.
Harris also reached double figures scoring 10 of his 14 points in the first half.
Skaggs chipped in three points followed by the JV Tiger trio of Malachi Fredendall, Barzee and Ahart with two points apiece.
Cody Hamm rounded out the JV Tiger scoring against Sullivan with one point on a fourth-quarter free throw.
