Ruth S. Schlemper, 87, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Feb. 27, 1937, to Harvey and Gertrude (Brumagen) Myeburger in Granite City, Ill.

She was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and attended two years of college.

Ruth was united in marriage to Edmund Schlemper, Aug. 15, 1959, in Villa Ridge Missouri.

Ruth worked as a secretary for the Missouri Department of Social Services before her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linn where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a representative of the Gasconade Valley Baptist Association.

She was preceded in death by parents, Harvey and Gertrude; son, David Schlemper; brother, Clarence “Sonny” Myeburger; sister, Opal Crecelius; and daughter-in-law, Jane Schlemper.

Ruth is survived by spouse of 64 years, Edmund; sons, Duane Schlemper and wife Joyce of Greenville, Ill., Daniel Schlemper and wife Maribeth of Mt. Sterling, Dale Schlemper and wife Lisa of Freedom; brother, Lawrence Myeburger and wife Linda of Owensville; sisters, Alice Crecelius and husband Don of Union and Doris Door of Villa Ridge; former daughter-in-law, Kathie Runge of Belle; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, at First Baptist Church in Linn with Rev. David Krueger officiating. Interment was at Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union.

Memorials suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
