Before Jacob Walton’s Belle Tiger and Lady Tiger track and field athletes could begin competition in their Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, Sectional 2 track meet Saturday at South Callaway High School, heavy rain and thunderstorms forced the meet into a weather delay until noon.
Once the track meet concluded, Belle High School (BHS) senior Aubrey Rehmert emerged as a sectional champion in the girls javelin and will go for her second consecutive state championship on Friday, May 22 at 1 p.m., during the MSHSAA Track and Field Championships at the Dennis and Roberta Licklider Track Complex inside Jefferson City High School’s Atkins Stadium during the Class 2 Girls Javelin.
“Throwing a season best 41.04 meters at sectionals, Aubrey will get to go for another state title,” BHS head track coach Jacob Walton said.
Placing fifth in the boys 800-meter run, Tiger sophomore Malachi Fredendall posted a time of 2:10.85 which broke Larry Piel’s previous school record time of 2:03.90 from back in 1974.”
“While he didn’t make it to state, he’s bound to reach there next year given his major accomplishments in both the 400m and 800m runs this season,” Walton said.
Ending an outstanding sophomore season on the track, Zoe Camden placed sixth in the girls 400m dash in a time of 1:04.66 while placing seventh in the girls 200m dash with a time of 28.32.
Ellanor Kent ended her sophomore season as a BHS distance runner posting a seventh-place time of 14:20.14 in the girls 3200m run to go along with an eighth-place time of 6:24.44 in the girls 1600m run.
Both the Tiger and Lady Tiger 4x400m relay teams ended their seasons with eighth-place finishes.
Taking eighth in the boys 4x400m relay in a time of 3:52.06 was the Tiger quartet of Connor Weigel, Miles Frey, David Skaggs and Fredendall.
Also posting an eighth-place time of 4:55.95 in the girls 4x400m relay was the Lady Tiger foursome of Avaya Kitchen, Chloe Jones, Ellie Gray and Camden.
Adding to their 4x400m relay performance, the same foursome that ran that race for Belle posted a sixth-place time of 9:28.99 in the boys 4x800m relay.
Racing to an eighth-place time of 13:11.02 in the girls 4x800m relay for Belle was the red and black squad of Ellanor Kent, Allania Moore, Saylor Kent and Gray.
