Michael Wayne Schorpp, 77, Belle, passed away on Aug. 18, 2026, at his residence.
He was born on Jan. 24, 1949, to Robert and the late Loretta (Risch) Schorpp in St. Louis.
He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Tom and Arlene Strayhorn from a young age.
Michael attended school in St. Louis prior to quitting school to proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War receiving the Bronze Star for meritorious service. In 1971, after returning from Vietnam, he received his G.E.D.
Michael was united in marriage to Elaine Lynch on July 18, 1979, by a judge in downtown St. Louis.
He had been employed by Local#27 Boilermakers International for almost 30 years before retirement and was a welder by trade.
Michael and Elaine moved to the Belle area in 2005. He enjoyed working in his shop at home and was a bit of a “Mr. fix it” around the house.
Michael loved being outdoors, fishing or hunting with regular or black powder guns and bows, and was a member of the gun club of Owensville.
He especially loved his annual hunting trips with friends to Colorado.
Michael liked to make jerky out of the venison and was excellent on the BBQ grill. His family loved his chicken.
Other interests were watching westerns or sports. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinal and Kansas City Royals fan. Michael was kind and enjoyed helping out others who were in need. Above all, Michael loved time spent with his family and will be missed tremendously by them and all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by mother, Loretta; and uncle and aunt, Tom and Arlene Strayhorn.
Michael is survived by wife, Elaine; father, Robert Schorpp of Arizona; daughter, Virginia Cavender of Fenton; grandchildren, Abigale Benjamin and Zachary Kastner; sisters, Susan Frankenfield of Arizona, Sharron David and Bonnie Patton, both of St. Louis; brother, Tom Strayhorn “Skeet” of Catawissa; special uncle, Johnny Aman who inspired his hunting and fishing life; and special cousins, Kathleen Voss of Rolla, Mary Anne Wienstroer and Jannette Anne St. Vrain, both of St. Louis; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
In keeping with Michaels wishes, his body will be cremated and will be interred at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at a later date.
