Maxine Elizabeth Bax, 82, Freeburg, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at her home.
She was born Nov. 15, 1943, to the late Willard Fredrick and Martha Bernadine (Dickneite) Barton in Freeburg.
She was united in marriage to Emil George “Sweet Pea” Bax on March 3, 1961, in Freeburg.
She was a 1961 graduate of Fatima High School.
Maxine worked for the State of Missouri’s, Division of Health, Division of Youth Services and Division of General Services as well as for Quaker Window Company and Hilke’s Ice Company, both in Freeburg and for Terry Bax, CPA in Dallas, Texas.
Maxine was preceded in death by husband, Emil; infant daughter, Mary Ann Bax; parents Willard and Martha Barton; and sisters, Esther Becker and Sophie Koetting.
She is survived by sons, Mark Bax and wife Lucia of Modesto Calif., Bruce Bax of Hartsburg, Terry Bax of Dallas Texas, Jamie Bax and wife Jennifer of Jefferson City and Eric Bax and wife Nikki of Troy; daughter, Nicki Bax of Freeburg; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Karen Hopkins of North Kansas City.
A second visitation will be held from 10 until 11 a.m., (today) Wednesday, June 24, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial all in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, with Rev. William Debo officiating.
Interment will be held in the Holy Family Cemetery in Freeburg.
