VIENNA — The elected Maries County R-1 school board members took the oath of office at their April 15 meeting. Kayla Wansing, Denise Wilkinson and Matthew Novak were all incumbents.
Because there were three seats and three candidates, all candidates were guaranteed a seat. However, because the board had a bond measure on the April 7 ballot, the board members had to be on the ballot. The measure was Proposition Eagles, which passed at 69.15 percent over the required 57 percent, approving a $1 million no tax increase bond to improve school facilities.
After approving the meeting agenda, the March 31 meeting minutes and the election results, the board dissolved itself before each of the newly elected members said their oaths. The board then selected David Long as the president, Wangsing as the vice president and Wilkinson as treasurer.
