Linn, Chamois athletes team up during Maries-Osage Challenge Track meet

That was the goal last Monday for middle and high school track teams from Linn and Chamois during the annual Maries-Osage Challenge Track Meet at the Linn High School Athletic Complex.

Led by Linn High School’s Lady Wildcats, Osage County racked up 268.5 points compared to 650 points for Maries County.

Linn’s Zoe Werdehausen led county athletes in the girls 100-meter dash with a second-place time of 14.87. Eevie Halbert placed fourth for Chamois in the girls 100-meter dash in a time of 15.89 to lead the Lady Pirates.

Linn’s Tiauna Friend (5th, 16.04) and Chamois’ Emma Mehmert (6th, 16.30) also sprinted down the track in the girls 100m dash.

Freshman Carley Brandt won the girls 200m dash for Linn in 29.63 followed by Halbert (5th, 34.29) and Mehmert (6th, 34.31).

Taking three of the top four spots in the girls 800m run from Linn were Paige Loethen (2nd, 2:44.44), Kylie Messenger (3rd, 2:49.12) and Ramsie Tschappler (4th, 2:50.05).

Loethen (6:09.99) and Tschappler (6:50.13) placed first and third respectively in the girls 1600m run for Linn.

Halbert placed second for Chamois in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 20.49.

Linn’s Emerson Bowser also took second in the girls 300m hurdles in a time of 1:11.05.

Placing second in the girls 4x200m relay for Linn in 2:03.24 was the Lady Wildcat foursome of Hope Wolfe, Werdehausen, Friend and Brandt.

Winning the girls 4x400m relay for Linn in 4:44.94 was the team of Brandt, Messenger, Wolfe and Loethen.

Also taking the girls 4x800m relay in 11:28.45) was the Linn quartet of Tschappler, Messenger, Wolfe and Loethen.

Throwing their way into the top six of the girls shot put for Linn were Courtney Wood (4th, 7.48m), Natasha Jewell (5th, 7.06m) and Vidella Loughridge (6th, 6.77m).

Loughridge also placed third in the discus with a throw of 24.05m.

Chamois’ Savanah Sieg took fourth in the event with a mark of 23.93m.

Halbert won the girls javelin with a throw of 28.15m for Chamois followed by county athletes Loughridge (2nd, 19.07m), Mehmert (3rd, 18.82m), Sieg (5th, 14.50m), Jewell (6th, 14.48m) and Wood (7th, 13.78m).

During middle school girls action, Raigen Cramer led county sprinters with a sixth-place time of 16.18 for Chamois in the girls 100m dash.

Also competing for Osage County were Linn’s Madison Wood (7th, 16.74), Chamois’ Jaelyn Thoenen (8th, 16.83) and Linn’s April Everett (10th, 18.21).

Cramer also placed fifth in the girls 200m dash in 33.30.

Linn’s Ruby Herndon won the girls 400m dash in 1:09.22 while Shayla Burnett also claimed a Lady Wildcat victory with a first-place time of 2:52.94 in the girls 800m run.

Carly Schollmeyer (4th, 3:16.39) and Jaelyn Thoenen (5th, 3:25.82) also placed in the top five for the Lady Pirates.

Schollmeyer was also second in the girls 1600m run in a time of 6:59.53.

Linn’s Bria Kempker won the girls 100m hurdles in a time of 21.43.

Sprinting to victory in a time of 1:01.68 was Linn’s girls 4x100m relay team.

Kempker also took third in the girls long jump with a leap of 3.44m while Ava Franken also took seventh for the Lady Wildcats with a mark of 3.21m.

Chamois’ trio of Cramer (5th, 3.25m), Jaelyn Thoenen (6th, 3.22m) and Erica Bledsoe (12th, 2.33m) also competed in the long jump.

Linn’s Madison Wood won the girls discus with a throw of 21.73m while also placing second in the shot put with a mark of 9.25m.

Among high school boys, Linn’s Cody Heckman sprinted to a second-place time of 12.06 in the boys 100m dash.

Chamois’ Kaden Wuelling (4th, 12.72) and Linn’s Carson Kliethermes (9th, 14.89) also represented Osage County.

Heckman was also second in the boys 200m dash in a time of 24.61.

Chamois’ Jaxon Wuelling placed third in the 400m dash in 58.16 while also taking second in the boys 800m run in 2:21.17.

Linn’s trio of Thomas Scheulen (4th, 2:30.88), Max Jaegers (5th, 2:33.54) and Preston Keilholz-Schuelen (6th, 2:36.24) along with Chamois’ William Kirsch (9th, 2:40.71) also competed in the boys 800m run for Osage County.

Chamois’ Dawson Brandt led the county in the boys 1600m run with a fourth-place time of 5:53.66. Linn’s Reid Baker also placed seventh in 6:38.55.

Caleb Keilholz took second place for Chamois in the boys 3200m run in 12:40.66.

Kaden Wuelling claimed the top spot in the boys 110m hurdles in 19.11 while Scheulen was third for Linn in 22.08.

Kirsch took second for Chamois in the boys 300m hurdles in a time of 51.67.

Sprinting to a second-place time of 54.27 in the boys 4x100m relay was the Linn foursome of Kahne Brandt, Joshua Worley, Scheulen and Kliethermes.

Taking second in the boys 4x400m relay in 4:01.85 was the Wildcat quartet of Heckman, Keilholz-Schuelen, Kahne Brandt and Scheulen.

Chamois’ Pirate team of Jaxon Wuelling, Kirsch, Dawson Brandt and Keilholz also placed third in 4:04.33 during the boys 4x400m relay.

Pirate distance runners teaming up to place second in 9:29.33 during the boys 4x800m relay included Kaden Wuelling, Jaxon Wuelling, Keilholz and Kirsch.

Keilholz won the boys shot put for Chamois with a throw of 11.20m while Chamois’ Oliver Carter (6th, 8.15m), Linn’s Connor Knoll (7th, 7.88m), Linn’s Xavier Knoll (8th, 7.34m) and Chamois’ Landen Northway (9th, 6.35m) also threw for Osage County in the boys shot put.

Dawson Brandt led Osage County in the boy discus with a third-place throw of 31.41m followed by Linn’s Joseph Brandt (7th, 24.16m) Carter (9th, 22.48m), Connor Knoll (10th, 21.18m), Worley (12th, 17.44m), Northway (13th, 17.24m) and Xavier Knoll (14th, 14.43m).

During middle school boys action, Chamois’ Brayden Cotton led Osage County with a fifth-place time of 13.42 in the boys 100m dash.

Also sprinting for Osage County were Linn’s Aiden Mebruer (6th, 13.82), Linn’s Knox Sowders (7th, 14.17), Linn’s Elijah Kliethermes (14th, 16.17), Chamois’ Victor Slack (15th, 16.92) and Chamois’ Ben Ruggue (17th, 17.76).

Cotton also placed third in the boys 200m dash with a time of 27.79. Osage countians following him were Chamois’ Greyson Gerloff (7th, 30.14), Kliethermes (15th, 33.66) and Slack (16th, 35.31).

Gerloff (4th, 1:04.40) and Chamois’ Levi Weed (5th, 1:05.89) rounded out the top five of the boys 400m dash. Linn’s Josh Powers also placed ninth in 1:09.45.

The same Pirate duo placed fourth and sixth respectively in the boys 800m run while Linn’s duo of Isaiah Franken (10th, 2:58.11) and Emmit Mehmert (14th, 3:41.14) also ran the race for the Wildcats.

Linn’s Titus Black won the boys 100m hurdles in a time of 17.29.

In relay races, Linn’s Wildcats won the boys 4x100m relay in 52.54 while taking second in the boys 4x400m relay (4:30.26) and third in the boys 4x800m relay (11:26.77).

Weed placed second in the high jump clearing 1.47m while Franken placed third in the boys pole vault with a clearing height of 2.13m.

Cotton swept both throwing events for the Pirates with winning throws of 12.85m in the boys shot put and 38.75m in the boys discus.

Also throwing for Osage County in the boys discus were Linn’s Ian Laughlin (3rd, 28.80m), Ruggue (5th, 25.93m), Sowders (8th, 20.97m) and Slack (10th, 18.60m).
