Last Monday on the road in Moniteau County, Bryce Gehlert’s Belle Tiger baseball team looked to climb back over the .500 mark with a road win against California’s Pintos.

Nursing a 3-2 lead after five innings, Belle tacked on a run in the top of the sixth inning before putting up a 3-spot in the top of the seventh inning of their 7-2 victory on the road.

Belle struck first in the top of the first inning when Gage Terrill drew a leadoff walk before eventually scoring on a wild pitch to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

Getting the call as the starting pitcher, senior Garrett Gehlert allowed back-to-back singles that led to a pair of Pinto runs leaving Belle trailing 2-1 against California after one inning.

Armed with a quick answer in the top of the second inning, the Tigers got both runs back sparked by the bottom half of their batting order.

Luke Rohrer and Easton Schroeder started the frame with consecutive singles before Chase Trainor drove in Rohrer with a RBI double tying the game at 2-2.

Belle then took the lead for good with a RBI single off the bat of Terrill that scored Trainor giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

Pitching around a pair of walks in the bottom of the second inning, Gehlert kept the Pintos off the scoreboard and Belle with a 3-2 lead.

Keeping California off the scoreboard over the next three innings, Belle was able to push across an insurance tally in the top of the sixth inning.

Rohrer singled with one out before scoring on a Trainor RBI double bumping the Tiger lead to 4-2 after six innings.

Retiring the Pintos in order in the bottom of the sixth inning, Gehlert continued to give his Belle offense a chance to add to their lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Hank Stratman started the scoring spree in the top of the seventh inning for the Tigers with a one-out single before scoring on a passed ball.

Ryder Butler scored Belle’s second run of the inning reaching on a sacrifice bunt before later scoring on a wild pitch.

Lathan Miller then scored Belle’s final run of the game when he was walked in by Schroeder after he doubled to reach base.

Cameron Rehmert pitched the bottom of the seventh inning in relief of Gehlert allowing no runs, no hits and a walk.

Gehlert earned the win pitching six innings allowing two runs on two hits and four walks to go with nine strikeouts.

Overcoming five errors in the field, Belle out hit the Pintos 11-2 behind two hits apiece from Butler, Rohrer, Trainor and Schroeder.

Now 7-6 on the season, Belle began a stretch of three road games in five days Monday night at Cuba before facing St. James last night (Tuesday).

They will end the week on Friday traveling to Hermann to face the Bearcats.

All three games will have a 4:30 p.m., first pitch.

Scheduled to host Crocker last Friday night, that game was canceled due to inclement weather with no reschedule date known at press time.
