STOUTLAND — Making free throws generally win you more basketball games.
Anastyn Lansford and Belle’s Lady Tigers found this out last week during the Stoutland Lady Tiger Classic last week along Interstate 44.
Going a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line in Belle’s 73-68 overtime semifinal loss to Stoutland’s Lady Tigers, Lansford earned a place among 30 girls basketball players in the history of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) record book for making at least nine free throws in one game without a miss.
“Anastyn was simply focused and in a zone, Lady Tiger head coach Biance Stocks said. “She makes our whole team better whenever she is out on the court.”
Relegated to last Thursday’s third-place game against Newburg’s Lady Wolves last Thursday night, Belle’s Lady Tigers led 21-8 after one quarter and gradually built on their lead throughout the duration of their 66-43 victory giving them third-place hardware from Lady Tiger country.
“I’m proud of our girls for playing hard this week and bouncing back the way we did after a tough overtime loss in the semifinals,” Stocks said.
Connecting on seven 3-pointers tying her school record, Anastyn Lansford led the Lady Tigers and all scorers with 35 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists.
Ava Feeler also reached double figures with 11 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Aubrey Rehmert added a double double finishing with 10 points, 17 rebounds and four assists.
Natalie Lansford threw in seven points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals for Belle against Newburg.
Makenna Lange rounded out the Belle scoring against Newburg with three points and five rebounds.
Haley Steffe and Makenna Suschanke each led the Lady Wolves with 12 points.
Lady Tigers vs. Stoutland
Turning back Conway’s Lady Bears 68-22 in first-round action last Monday night at Stoutland, Belle looked to punch their ticket into the Stoutland Lady Tiger Classic title game with a semifinal victory over the top-seeded hosts.
Tied at 45-45 after three quarters, Belle took the host Lady Tigers into overtime before coming up on the short end of a 73-68 final score.
Led by Anastyn Lansford with 37 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, Feeler also finished in double figures with 11 points and five rebounds.
Rehmert scored seven of her nine points in the second half while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Natalie Lansford added six points, four rebounds and three assists while Lange finished with five points.
Mallory Shaw led Stoutland and all scorers with a game-high 47 points.
Lady Tigers vs. Conway
Opening the second week of January against Conway’s Lady Bears in first-round action at the Stoutland Lady Tiger Classic, Belle’s Lady Tigers turned a 26-0 first-quarter shutout into a 68-22 victory behind 34 points from Anastyn Lansford.
Younger sister Natalie Lansford also reached double figures with 15 points while Saige Garner hit a trio of 3-pointers for nine points.
Rehmert and Feeler both added five points against Conway for Belle.
Natalie Lansford, Feeler and Rehmert all grabbed seven rebounds against Conway.
Anastyn Lansford also recorded a team-high eight steals.
Named to the Lady Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team from Belle were Anastyn Lansford and Rehmert.
Idle this week, Belle’s Lady Tigers will return to action next week during the Russellville Girls Basketball Tournament in Cole County.
