Ending January with a victory over Eugene in the Russellville Girls Basketball Tournament consolation championship game, Biance Stocks’ Belle Lady Tigers looked to kick of the month of February last Tuesday night with a win on their home court over Salem’s Lady Tigers on senior night.
Falling behind 11-0 in the opening quarter, Belle trailed until an Anastyn Lansford bucket at the 3:08 mark of the third quarter gave them a 29-28 lead.
Eventually going on a 10-2 run that stretched into the fourth quarter, the host Lady Tigers eventually went on to a 46-38 victory over the visiting Lady Tigers from Dent County.
“I’m so proud of our seniors for having the tenacity to just keep chipping away even though we fell behind in the first quarter,” Stocks said. “Our girls came together and we’re determined that they were not going to lose on senior night.”
Down 11-0 with 3:38 for the first quarter, Ava Feeler canned a 3-pointer with 2:47 for the opening period sparking a 12-2 run that sliced Salem’s lead to 13-12 on a Natalie Lansford basket with 1:15 for the first quarter.
In spite of trailing the remainder of the first half, Anastyn Lansford scored six of Belle’s eight second-quarter points leaving them only with a six-point halftime deficit at 24-18.
Facing a 26-18 hill to climb early in the third quarter, Natalie Lansford scored five points in a span of :36 igniting an 18-2 run that gave Belle a 36-28 lead on an Aubrey Rehmert free throw with :27 for the quarter.
Taking a 36-30 lead into the fourth quarter, Belle was able to hold on for a 46-38 win on senior night even with Anastyn Lansford playing the entire fourth quarter with four fouls.
Nearly outscored by her sister, Anastyn Lansford led Belle with 17 points, five steals, two rebounds and two assists.
Natalie Lansford was very close behind with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Rehmert would’ve had a good night in Las Vegas at the craps table finishing with seven points and 11 rebounds.
Feeler rounded out Belle’s scoring with six points on a pair of 3-pointers.
Paisley May led Salem with 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Two nights later in Iberia last Thursday night, Belle dropped a 75-48 decision to the Lady Rangers in spite of a team-high 19 points from Feeler for Belle.
Anastyn Lansford also reached double figures with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Natalie Lansford nearly posted a triple double finishing with seven points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Makenna Lange added five points while Rehmert finished with four points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Hosting Newburg’s Lady Wolves last night (Tuesday), Belle will then turn around and host Fatima’s Lady Comets tomorrow (Thursday) night before embarking on a Friday-night road trip into Crocker to face the Lady Lions.
