Already earning postseason honors from the Show-Me Central Conference (SMCC), Vienna’s Teagan James and the Lady Eagle duo of Aubrey Schwartze and Ella Hollis saw more recognition Monday morning from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA).
Released Monday morning after the conclusion of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Show-Me Showdown for Classes 1-3, three Vienna High School basketball players were among 20 boys and girls basketball players honored among the MSHSAA Class 2, District 9 Tournament fields.
Netting double figures in points during all of Vienna’s games that statistics were available on, James scored a season-high 36 points during their 75-70 loss to Russellville ending the regular season.
Adding 10 rebounds to his season-high point total, James also recorded one of five double doubles on the season.
James’ first double double came during a 55-18 victory over Chamois with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He also dished out a season-high five assists against the Pirates.
During their 77-66 victory over Liberty Christian at the Battle in Bourbon Tournament, James posted his second double double of the season finishing with 28 points and 12 rebounds.
In an 83-69 non-conference victory over Crocker, James posted another double double of 33 points and 11 rebounds.
Near the end of the regular season during an 88-64 win over Crocker, James called blackjack finishing with a double double of 21 points, 10 rebounds, five blocked shots, four steals and three assists.
Scoring at least 20 points in 21 games, James led the Eagles in scoring averaging 24 points per game.
He also led the team with 6.4 rebounds per contest.
Joining James on the MBCA Class 2, District 9 All-District Boys Basketball Team were Crocker freshman Preston Pierce, Eugene senior Dawson Busch, Eugene senior Austin Doerhoff, Eugene senior Ethan Wunderlich, Macks Creek sophomore Carter Ferrell, Macks Creek sophomore Cash Stoner-Ehorn, Newburg junior Jayce Dyer, Newburg senior Gage Holderby and Richland sophomore Mason Alexander.
Eugene’s Brian Wilde was named the District Coach of the Year while Wunderlich was named the District Player of the Year for the Eagles who went on to win their second consecutive MSHSAA Class 2 Boys Basketball state championship.
Schwartze led the Lady Eagles averaging a double double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.
She also led the team averaging three blocked shots a game.
Averaging 15 points, five steals, five assists and four rebounds per game, Hollis led the Lady Eagles in steals and assists while breaking the school record for assists in a season with 106.
Joining Schwartze and Hollis on the MBCA Class 2, District 9 Girls All-District Basketball Team were Crocker junior Lexi Ament, Crocker senior Gretchen Candee, Crocker junior Tessa Danielson, Eugene junior Ryleigh Kliethermes, Iberia sophomore Ansley Martin, Iberia junior Jaylyn Piggot, Iberia junior Paige Russell and Richland junior Mallory Moss.
Crocker’s Tom Bildner was voted the District Coach of the Year while Ament was also named the District Player of the Year for the Lady Lions.
