VIENNA — A St. James woman that was taken into custody Nov. 4 faces more charges after deputies and jail staff discovered fentanyl capsules during the booking process at the Maries County Jail.
According to court documents, 27-year-old Leanna R. Haws was being booked into the jail on Nov. 4 when a deputy and detective assisted a jailer in searching her belongings. During that search, officers located 31 fentanyl capsules inside Haws’s backpack.
Seven used capsules were also found in the bag.
Jail staff escorted Haws into the bathroom to complete a urinalysis drug test, which revealed the presence of fentanyl, amphetamines, methamphetamines and marijuana. While preparing to take the test, a baggie fell from Haws and into the sample cup. The baggie contained five additional capsules, which investigators say were identical to those found in her backpack.
In total, 36 capsules were seized.
A warrant issued on Nov. 6 formally charged Haws with delivery or possession of a controlled substance at a county/private jail/correctional center and first degree-over statutory amount trafficking of drugs.
On Nov. 17, a letter accepting Haws to Shepherd’s Pasture, a 12-month rehabilitation program designed for women with chemical addiction, was sent to the courts.
On Nov. 18, Haws was released on her own recognizance bond with the stipulation she report to Shepherds Pasture within 24-hours of her release from jail and was given a court date of Nov. 25 in Maries County.
On Nov. 25, Judge Kerry Rowden issued a capias “no bond” warrant on Haws for failure to appear after she was not present for her hearing.
