The host Vienna Eagle boys’ and girls’ track teams both had runner-up team finishes in the 13-school Vienna Black & Gold Invitational, held Tuesday, April 7 at the VHS Track.
In the largest Black & Gold field in years, Vienna finished second in the boys’ meet with 132 points while the Lady Eagles were also second with 110 points.
Dixon won the boys’ team title with 151 points and Iberia the girls’ crown with 125 points.
Hunter Schwartze had a hand in a pair of first-place finishes for the Eagle boys, winning the 800-meter run at 2:08.46 and also running a leg on the winning 4x800-meter relay squad, along with Bryce Ewers, Paxten Jeremy and Troy Wulff, at 8:55.22.
Other Vienna boys first-places came from Eli Crum in the discus at 131-4; Kevin Russell in the long jump at 22-0 3/4; Talan Reeves in the triple jump at 39-7 1/4, and the 4x100-meter throwers relay squad of Crum, Gage Curtis, AJ Creamer and Jordan Hatfield at :53.97.
Eagle second places came from Jason Ware in the pole vault at 8-0 and the 4x400-meter relay squad of Ewers, Schwartze, Jeremy and Russell at 3:50.60. Vienna third places were by Russell in the high jump at 5-8 and Jeremy in the 1,600-meter run at 5:09.64.
Raliegh Walker and Aubrey Schwartze each had a pair of first places for the Lady Eagles. Walker won both the high jump at 4-4 and the triple jump at 29-6 3/4 while Schwartze took the shot put at 37-0 ½ and ran a leg on the winning 4x100-meter throwers relay, along with Liberty Rowden, Grace Veasman and Lily Grace Walker, at 1:02.81.
Other Lady Eagle first places were by Sophia Neubert in the 3,200-meter run at 14:22.33 and Kaylee Bresnahan, who tied for first in the pole vault at 6-11 3/4.
Vienna second places were by Scarlet Weeks in the triple jump at 28-5 and the 4x800-meter relay squad of Bresnahan, Kaitlyn Carpenter, Neubert and L. Williams at 12:39.90. Schwartze had third places in both the discus at 93-7 and javelin at 98-99.
This week Vienna was scheduled to compete in the Osage Warpath Invitational Monday and in the Cuba Invitational Thursday, starting at 3:30 p.m.
