Last month, psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert penned an opinion piece for the Wall Street Journal in which he labeled “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) as a real psychological issue. He went on to call the condition the “defining pathology of our time.”
Based in Manhattan, Alpert said during an interview on Fox News that he has seen this with around three-quarters of his patients.
“It doesn’t take long for me to pick up on this: people are obsessed with Trump, they’re fixated, they’re hyper-fixated on Trump. And they talk about some of the features of this disorder — they can’t sleep, they feel traumatized by Mr. Trump, they feel restless,” he said.
“I had one patient who said she couldn’t enjoy a vacation because anytime she saw Trump in the news or on her device, she felt triggered,” he added.
Alpert emphasized that what he was describing “is an emotional pattern, not an ideology. It shows up when someone’s political feelings become so intense and consuming that they start to interfere with their daily life.”
TDS is one reason many adults refuse to acknowledge the good things President Donald Trump and his administration have accomplished. As we enter the Christmas holiday, one could call them ‘gifts’ they purposefully ignore. These gifts — for all Democrats, Independents and Republicans — fall into the following categories: Taxes, Savings, Lower Prices, Lives Saved and Peace Achieved.
For those who have forgotten, or choose to ignore these gifts, here are some reminders.
Taxes: The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which every Democrat voted against, passed this summer. This bill cut taxes for American workers and American families, giving the average American household a $2,100 tax cut starting next year. Another one of Trump’s campaign promises came true in the OBBBA with the elimination of federal taxes on qualified tips and eligible overtime compensation. For seniors who are 65 or older, for tax years 2025 through 2028, they can now deduct up to $6,000 from their taxable income. These tax breaks are for every day Americans, not millionaires.
Next year, when you calculate your federal taxes, don’t forget to send Trump and your elected representatives a thank-you note.
Savings: The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has achieved an estimated $214 billion in savings. That amounts to $1,329 per taxpayer. In addition, the OBBBA reduces federal spending by $1.212 trillion over 10 years, cutting spending by $170 billion in 2025. The resulting deficit reduction comes to $3,570 per American citizen.
Lower Prices: According to GasBuddy, the average price of gasoline in Missouri on Saturday was $2.59 per gallon, with the lowest price in Joplin at $2.14. On Nov. 25, 2023, the average price was $3.13. As reported by USGasPrice.com the average U.S. driver uses 540 gallons of gas per year, or 1,080 gallons for a two-car household. That’s a savings of over $500 from 2023 prices. Drill baby drill!
The American Farm Bureau says that the average cost to feed 10 people for Thanksgiving is lower this year at $5.52 per person, down from $5.80 in 2024 and $6.12 in 2023 and the record high of $6.41 in 2022. Turkey prices dropped more than 16 percent from last year.
In May, President Trump signed an executive order implementing what he called “most favored nations drug pricing” for the U.S. to reduce the price of pharmaceuticals.
Lives Saved: ABC News reported that “Violent crime during the National Guard’s initial one-month surge in Washington was down 39 percent from the same period last year, including a 53 percent drop in homicides, with seven during the surge, compared to 15 during the same timespan in 2024.”
In addition to this, there is no way to calculate how many lives have been saved thanks to Trump’s border policy and the deportation of violent illegal immigrants.
Name a president who has done more to combat crime and protect Americans better than Trump.
Peace Deals: Trump’s peace deals since taking office in January are perhaps his most significant accomplishment, ignored by those who hate him. In October, with the guidance of U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Israel and Hamas signed a historic peace deal. President Trump also helped end conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia, Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Serbia and Kosovo and Egypt and Ethiopia.
The gifts from President Trump keep on coming.
