GFL Environ. discontinues waste pick-up services after March 31

BLAND — GFL Environmental Inc. customers in Bland received a letter over the weekend that the Springfield company will pull services out of the area by March 31, and collect all containers.

The company that took over from WCA in July 2021 said they are pulling services because of operational costs.

“We are continually monitoring our operational costs to ensure that we can offer our customers a premium service at a fair charge,” the letter, signed GFL Environmental, Inc., read. “Recently, GFL has completed route audits of the service area you are within and find we can no longer support the cost of providing these services at a reasonable charge. This decision takes into consideration the increase in costs of providing service as well as the density, or number of accounts, we serve.”

GFL asks customers to consider the letter their two weeks (or less) notice that they will discontinue providing the service to businesses or residences.

“We do apologize for this inconvenience and, should you have a credit or prepayment on your account, refunds will be processed as quickly as possible.”

March bills were due on the 15th and customers on the company’s automatic payment system have confirmed that the full amount was pulled.

When contacted on Tuesday, a representative for the company said that the services would not be reinstated as the Rolla location, where operations are conducted, is closing.
