Several student-athletes at Vienna High School were recognized during the Eagles’ awards ceremony, held Thursday, May 28 at the VHS gym.
Student-athletes from the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, boys’ basketball team, baseball team, boys’ and girls’ track teams and girls’ junior varsity basketball squad were honored. The Lady Tigers’ softball and girls’ varsity basketball teams had their respective award ceremonies earlier in the school year.
Girls’ Cross Country
The Lady Eagles won the Show-Me Central Conference championship.
Despite a roster with just five runners, Vienna had three Class 1 State Meet qualifiers in freshman Sophia Neubert, freshman Kaitlyn Carpenter and junior Kaylee Bresnahan.
Vienna Academic All-Staters were Bresnahan and Carpenter.
Boys’ Cross Country
Junior Hunter Schwartze was the MVP of the Eagle boys’ cross country squad. Vienna had a banner season, winning the SMCC team championship and the district title to reach the Class 1 State Meet as a full team. All-state Eagles were Schwartze, who finished third individually, and Bryce Ewers.
Academic All-Staters were Tyler Hallahan, Paxten Jeremy and Hunter Schwartze.
Boys’ Basketball
The Eagles finished 12-15overall.
Junior Teagan James was named the Eagles’ MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. James set a school record for most three-pointers made in a season (93).
Defensive Player of the Year was Jude Stricklan while Best Teammate was Colton Wiles; Most Improved Dylan Long; Leadership Award Jayce Bertoni; Hustle Award Hunter Schwartze; Newcomer of the Year and JV MVP Talan Reeves, and Player/Coach of the Year Eli Crum.
Schwartze set the single-game steals record (10).
James was Show-Me Central Conference Player of the Year and all-district while Schwartze was second-team all-conference.
Baseball
The Vienna baseball squad was oh, so close to a district championship, losing to defending Class 1 state champion St. Elizabeth 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the seven inning in the District 8 title game. The Eagles were state-ranked at one point and finished the season 12-10.
Senior Troy Wulff was named the team’s MVP.
Evan Simmons led the team in pitching victories while Hunter Schwartze had the most steals, Mason Via was Most Improved, Wyatt Wulff Defensive Player of the Year and Troy Wulff Offensive Player of the Year.
All-district players were Reid Nichols and T. Wulff.
Boys’ Track
Vienna track ended its season with four all-staters and a state champion, increasing the program’s number of all-state competitors to 62.
Sophomore Kevin Russell captured the long jump state title with a school-record leap of 22-7 1/4.
Also bringing home all-state honors were sophomore Talan Reeves, who placed seventh in the triple jump at 40-9 ½, and senior Eli Crum, who was eighth in the discus with a P.R. throw of 134-10.
Vienna won its second straight SMCC championship, setting nine league records.
Russell was named the Eagles’ MVP. School records set this spring were Russell in the long jump and the 4x100-meter relay squad.
Girls’ Track
Lady Eagle senior Aubrey Schwartze ended her high school career with the state championship in the shot put, winning with a throw of 37-0 1/4. She was all-state in the event three straight years - third in 2025 and fourth in 2024.
Also advancing to the state meet was freshman Liberty Rowden in the javelin.
Vienna finished second in the conference meet and set four league records.
Schwartze was the team MVP and Sophia Neubert the team’s top point producer.
