The Vienna High baseball squad kept its record unblemished last week, rolling over Prairie Home 13-3 in its Show-Me Central Conference opener Tuesday, March 24 at Vienna City Park.
The victory upped the Eagles’ record to 4-0. The Prairie Home Panthers are now 0-2.
This week Vienna was to host St. Elizabeth in another SMCC game Monday and play at Plato Thursday (4:30 p.m.).
March 24 - Vienna 13, Prairie Home 3: The Eagles scored in every inning during a game that was stopped after five frames due to the run rule. Vienna plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning, four more in the second, one each in the third and fourth and two more in the fifth.
Vienna outhit Prairie Home 15-5.
Senior Troy Wulff went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored for the Eagles while junior Evan Simmons had two hits and two RBI; freshman Parker James two hits, an RBI and run scored; sophomore Wyatt Wulff a double, two RBI and two runs; junior Brett Welschmeyer a triple, RBI and run; seniors Reid Nichols a double, run and RBI; senior Dylan Long a single, run and RBI; junior Mason Via a double and run; senior Caden Kelley and junior Jaiden Hayes a hit and run each, and sophomore Jordan Hatfield a hit and RBI.
The Eagles also stole 10 bases - three by T. Wulff, two by James and one each by freshman Bentley Haller, Kelley, Long, Hayes and W. Wulff.
Simmons was the starting and winning pitcher, throwing three innings and allowing no earned runs on two hits and two walks while fanning six. He was followed on the mound by James, who allowed one run on two hits and a walk over an inning and Via, who allowed a run on one hit and three walks while striking out two in an inning.
