The host Vienna High baseball squad finished 0-2 in the Vienna Fall Classic, held Friday, Sept. 25 at City Park.
The event had been scheduled for Sept. 26, but was moved up a day due to the threat of rain.
The host Eagles fell to Iberia 7-2 and lost to St. Elizabeth 8-5. In what proved to be a championship game thriller, Iberia clipped St. Elizabeth 8-7 in eight innings.
Earlier in the week Vienna easily won at Prairie Home 16-0 Wednesday, Sept. 23.
This week Vienna, 4-4, was to play at Crocker Tuesday and host Tuscumbia Thursday (5 p.m.). The Eagles are to end the fall campaign by participating in the third annual Show-Me Central Conference Tournament Oct. 5-9.

Vienna Fall Classic
Iberia 7, Vienna 2: The Iberia Rangers plated three runs in the top of the first inning and led the rest of the way. Iberia added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh. The Eagles got solo runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh frames. Vienna clubbed 10 hits - three from sophomore Paxten Jeremy; two each from senior Hunter Schwartze, junior Wyatt Wulff and senior Evan Simmons, and one from senior Mason Via. Simmons, Via and Jeremy each had a double and Schwartze and sophomore Parker James each stole a pair of bases. Via went the distance on the pitching mound, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits and two walks.
St. Elizabeth 8, Vienna 5: Vienna opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. St. Elizabeth tied it up 2-2 in the top of the fourth, and the Eagles regained the edge with a three-run fourth. However, St. Elizabeth took the lead for good with five runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth. Each team had four hits. Simmons had a hit and two RBI; Wulff a hit and RBI; senior Jaiden Hayes a hit and two runs; Jeremy a hit; Schwartze two runs, and sophomore Bentley Haller a run. Schwartze and Hayes each stole two bases. Schwartze started on the mound and threw 4.2 innings, allowing an earned run on four hits and three walks while fanning five. Senior Brett Welschmeyer, Jeremy and James also pitched.
Sept. 23 - Vienna 16, Prairie Home 0: The Eagles erupted for 16 runs on 13 hits and eight walks. James had three hits, two runs and an RBI while Wulff two hits, three RBI and three runs; Hayes two hits, two RBI and two runs; Welschmeyer two hits, three RBI and a run; Schwartze two hits and two runs; Simmons a hit, three RBI and a run, and Jeremy a hit, RBI and two runs. Vienna stole seven bases, including two each by Via and Welschmeyer. The game was stopped after four innings due to the run-rule. Simmons threw all four innings for the Eagles, allowing two hits and a walk while fanning six.
