Donald Paul Hayes, Sr., 82, of St. James, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born May 28, 1941, to Sam and Maudeline (Steelman) Hayes in Salem.
He was united in marriage to Alice Brooks
Donald was a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He had a company called Don Hayes Hauling. He was a member of Walking by Faith Baptist Church in Salem.
He was preceded in death by parents, Sam and Maudeline; and wife, Alice; son, David Hayes; brothers, Kenneth “Buster,” Jimmy and Ray Hayes; sisters, Faye Sheppard and Shirley Farrell.
He is survived by children, Donald Paul Hayes, Jr., Melissa Hayes and Dale Hayes, all of St. James; and five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at later date.
