As Missouri’s State Treasurer, I have the privilege of helping protect our state’s finances and promoting tools that help families build a brighter future. That is why I encourage Missouri parents, grandparents, and guardians to learn about new Trump Accounts and the opportunities they can provide for children.
Trump Accounts, also known as Section 530A accounts, are new long-term savings and investment accounts created for children under age 18. Family members and others can contribute to these accounts, helping children build savings over time. For eligible children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, the federal government will provide an initial $1,000 contribution to help give them a financial head start.
Here in Missouri, we believe in creating opportunities for future generations and helping families prepare for tomorrow. These accounts are designed to encourage families to start saving early and give children a stronger financial foundation for the years ahead. Whether helping prepare for college, buying a first home, starting a business, or building future financial security, early savings can make a difference. Starting young also gives families more time to build savings and create opportunities that can benefit children throughout their lives.
The program is expected to begin accepting contributions starting July 4, 2026. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even employers may be able to contribute, helping children benefit from years of growth and planning.
I have seen through Missouri’s successful MOST 529 program how starting early can help families prepare for the future. Trump Accounts will give families another tool to help build long-term financial security. Families with children who have disabilities may also be able to use these accounts alongside Missouri’s MO ABLE program, allowing them to take advantage of additional savings opportunities that fit their family’s needs.
Missouri’s future depends on strong families investing in the next generation. Let us take advantage of opportunities that can help children get a stronger start and continue building a brighter future for our state.
