BOURBON — Hitting the road into northern Crawford County last Wednesday afternoon, Jacob Walton’s Bland Lady Bear basketball teams took on Bourbon’s Lady Warhawks in front of the Bourbon Middle School (BMS) student body.
After Bland won a two-quarter ‘B’ team game 21-6, Walton’s Lady Bears went for the sweep in the full ‘A’ team game.
Leading wire-to-wire in the first half, Bland saw Bourbon go on a 5-0 run to start the third quarter before three free throws tied the game at 23-23 entering the fourth quarter.
Able to survive an 8-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter, Bland’s Charleigh Elrod sparked a game-ending 12-0 run helping the Lady Bears complete the doubleheader sweep with a 37-31 victory in the ‘A’ team contest.
Riley Gehlert led the Lady Bears in the ‘A’ game with 10 points and five rebounds while her sister Reagan Gehlert finished with nine points, four rebounds and three steals.
Elrod added six points followed by Shae Buechter and Madelyn Lange with four points apiece.
Emilyn Lewis and Emrie Fredendall rounded out the Lady Bear scoring with two points apiece.
Bevynn Leach led Bourbon with a game-high double double of 19 points and 11 rebounds.
During the ‘B’ team game, Buechter led Bland with seven points followed closely by Lewis with six points.
Lange added four points and three rebounds while Kali Mayfield chipped in three points and five steals.
Elrod rounded out the scoring on a first-quarter free throw for one point.
