BLAND — Bland police conducted more than 200 traffic stops during July and are preparing to participate in a countywide traffic enforcement effort later this month.

During the Aug. 10 Bland Board of Aldermen meeting, the department reported conducting 203 traffic stops and responding to 111 calls for service. Officers also made four arrests during the month.

Code enforcement resulted in 16 warning letters and four citations.

The department also reported that its citation printer is now operational after previously experiencing problems.

Although some issues with the system are still being worked through, the department said the new equipment has significantly reduced the cost of issuing citations.

The cost per citation dropped from approximately $1.50 to less than 20 cents, according to the report given by Bland Police Chief Charles (Chuck) Holtz.

The department also participated in the Owensville parade during the July county fair.

Holtz told the board that Bland officers are scheduled to participate in a countywide saturation enforcement effort Aug. 29.

The initiative will bring law enforcement agencies from throughout the county together for increased traffic enforcement, with a particular emphasis on driving while intoxicated.

“Basically, all the agencies that are based in the county are going to work together, and we’re going to really crack down on traffic enforcement and DWIs for that night,” Holtz said.

The Aug. 29 operation is expected to involve officers and dispatchers from multiple agencies working together during the enforcement period.
