BLAND — The Bland Board of Aldermen approved a new ordinance on June 8 regulating tall grass and nuisance vegetation. The board approved Ordinance 215.025, which establishes procedures for addressing excessive vegetation within city limits. Under the ordinance, grass, weeds, brush and other uncultivated vegetation exceeding 12 inches in height may be declared a public nuisance.
The ordinance outlines notice requirements, hearing procedures and abatement measures. Property owners will be given 10 days to correct a violation or request a hearing before the city may take action. If the city is required to mow or otherwise remove excessive vegetation, property owners may be assessed fees beginning at $250 for an average-sized residential lot.
The measure received three readings before being approved by the board with a 4-0 vote.
