Matthew Lynn Steen of Bland was charged with the class D felony of second degree domestic assault Dec. 30, 2025, stemming from a report by the Osage County Sheriff’s Department (OSCD) on Nov. 13, 2025.
According to the probable cause statement, the alleged victim — Steen’s wife — reported that after learning of active warrants for his arrest, Steen began drinking at 7:30 a.m., became verbally combative and increasingly violent. Reportedly, the victim stated that Steen threw a coffee table in the living room and left in her vehicle so she contacted his mother to inform her that she would report the vehicle as stolen if not returned within 30 minutes. Steen is alleged to have returned within 15 minutes and accused of physically assaulting the victim by grabbing and choking her until she could barely breathe.
A criminal summons was issued for his appearance in Osage County Court on Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. with Judge Sonya Day Brandt presiding.
Steen is currently facing five additional charges in Osage County from an Aug. 20, 2025 incident reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP). He faces the class D felony of driving while intoxicated — aggravated, the class E felony of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage exceeding $1,000, the class A misdemeanor of failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and infractions alleging the use of a cell phone while driving and failure to use a seatbelt. For those charges, a warrant was issued for failure to appear on Nov. 19 with bond set at $5,000.
