Bids placed for Fly Creek Bridge replacement on County Road 213

VIENNA — Maries County Commissioners announced July 6 that the lowest bidder for the Fly Creek Bridge project on County Road 213 was Brenneke Construction with a $646,855.50 estimate.

The next step is for Donald Jenkins, vice president of MECO Engineering, to review bids to confirm that Brenneke Construction is the lowest.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has been working with the county to replace the bridge. Construction is expected to start spring 2027, due to other bridge projects, according to Joanie Pregner, MoDOT district planning coordinator.

The bridge, which is separate from the recently repaired bridge on Highway 42, connects the gravel and paved segments of the road. The paved segment is called Ballpark Road.

The commissioners are relieved that project will cost less than the anticipated amount. MECO estimated the cost to be $706,000 total. Western District Commissioner Patrick Kleffner thought it was going to be around $800,000 for the replacement.

“I was afraid the numbers were going to skyrocket with everything going up,” he said.

This is the final of five bridge projects to be completed in the Vienna area. Louis Company contracted with MoDOT to repair two bridges on both state Highways 42 and AA, and the Fly Creek Bridge on Highway 42 most recently opened July 2, before the Independence Day traffic.

While the county tried to complete the bridge on County Road 213 with the other four, the landowners and MECO Engineering didn’t reach an agreement before the deadline to submit bids.
