BHS Track athletes claim GVC titles in seven events

CUBA — Medals and team plaques were up for grabs Saturday morning at Cuba High School’s Wildcat Field of Pride during the annual Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) Track Meet.

Jacob Walton’s Belle Tigers and Lady Tigers won GVC titles in seven events while also claiming All-GVC honors 12 others.

It did not take long for the Tigers to claim their first GVC title Saturday when Malachi Fredendall sprinted his way to GVC gold with a winning time of 11.73 in the boys 100-meter dash.

Brice Robertson (6th, 12.33) and Timothy Schmid (7th, 12.40) also sprinted for the Tigers in the boys 100m dash.

Robertson went on to score the lone GVC title for the Tigers in field events clearing 1.77 meters to win the boys high jump.

Sophomore Zoe Camden showed the way for the Lady Tigers winning a pair of GVC titles in the girls 200m and 400m dashes in first-place times of 28.85 and 1:04.39 respectively.

Ellie Gray also placed sixth in the girls 200m dash in a time of 32.66 while Avaya Kitchen took fifth in the girls 400m dash in a time of 1:19.12.

Sprinting their way to GVC gold in the girls 4x100m relay with a winning time of 57.72 was the Lady Tiger foursome of Aubrey Rehmert, Chloe Jones, Gray and Kitchen.

That same foursome also posted a GVC title winning time of 2:00.16 in the girls 4x200m relay.

Adding to her GVC titles on a pair of relay teams, Rehmert won her third straight GVC individual title in the girls javelin with a winning throw of 39.78m.

Kennady Kinkead (6th, 20.57m) and Hayden Fann (8th, 17.96m) also threw the javelin for the Lady Tigers.

In addition to his GVC title in the boys 100m dash, Fredendall earned All-GVC honors in the boys 400m dash with a second-place time of 53.68.

Connor Weigel (4th, 57.07) and Connor LeRoux (6th, 1:02.54) also took a lap around the track for the Tigers.

Claiming three of the top four spots in the boys 800m run for Belle was David Skaggs (2nd, 2:17.93), Miles Frey (3rd, 2:19.01) and Coltin Hazelwood (4th, 2:25.28).

Hazelwood also earned All-GVC honors in the boys 3200m run following his second-place time of 12:04.45.

Trevor Frey (5th, 52.26) and Isaiah Spurgeon (8th, 56.35) posted their best finishes of the meet for the Tigers in the boys 300m hurdles.

Sprinting to All-GVC honors in the boys 4x100m relay with a second-place time of 50.50 was the Tiger quartet of Braxton Ahart, Cason Taylor, Robertson and Weigel.

Also earning All-GVC honors in the boys 4x200m relay for Belle with a second-place time of 1:45.53 was the Tiger squad of Ahart, Taylor, LeRoux and Schmid.

Ending the meet with All-GVC honors in the boys 4x400m relay for Belle with a second-place time of 3:45.18 was the team of Miles Frey, Weigel, Skaggs and Fredendall.

Starting the meet with an All-GVC second-place time of 9:22.64 in the boys 4x800m relay for Belle was the team of Miles Frey, Hazelwood, Skaggs and Fredendall.

Brayden Barzee threw his way to All-GVC accoladed with a second-place toss of 35.29m in the boys javelin.

Ahart (4th, 31.86m) and Weston Doss (6th, 30.94m) also competed for Belle’s Tigers in the boys javelin.

Brayden Gibson posted his best finish at the GVC meet for Belle with a fifth-place throw of 32.96m in the boys discus.

Along with Robertson winning the boys high jump, Kaegan Kinsey also tied for fourth place clearing 1.62m for Belle.

Miles Frey earned individual All-GVC honors placing second in the boys triple jump with a leap of 10.60m.

Taylor (4th, 10.15m) and Landon Storz (6th, 8.65m) also competed for Belle in the boys triple jump.

Belle’s Tigers placed third in the GVC team standings with 150 points behind Steelville (215) and Cuba (175).

Ellanor Kent captured All-GVC honors in two events posting second-place times of 2:53.18 in the girls 800m run and 14:10.48 in the girls 3200m run.

Kenadie Bailey (3rd, 2:59.07) and Allania Moore (5th, 3:37.80) also placed in the top five of the girls 800m run for Belle.

Placing in the top six of the girls 1600m run for Belle were Ellanor Kent (3rd, 6:21.72), Bailey (5th, 6:57.90) and Saylor Kent (6th, 7:42.32).

Claiming All-GVC honors in the girls 4x800m relay for Belle with a second-place time of 12:52.28 was the Lady Tiger foursome of Ellanor Kent, Saylor Kent, Bailey and Moore.

Also taking second good for All-GVC honors in the girls 4x400m relay in a time of 4:47.83 was the Lady Tiger squad of Kitchen, Bailey, Gray and Camden.

Adding to her leg of the GVC champion girls 4x100m relay team, Jones posted her best finish at Cuba in field events with a third-place throw of 23.19m in the girls discus.

Belle’s Lady Tigers also placed third in the team standings with 114 points finishing behind Steelville (196) and Cuba (183).

BHS Track and Field will now turn their attention to the upcoming Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Class 2, District 4 Track Meet scheduled for this Saturday at New Bloomfield High School.
