Entering last Tuesday’s second round of the Gasconade Valley Conference (GVC) Golf Tournament at Viburnum Golf Club, Tanner Hinson’s Belle Tigers had a 61-stroke lead over Steelville following the opening round played back on Monday, April 6 at Pine Ridge Golf Course just outside the Belle city limits.

After the second round of the tournament at Viburnum, Belle will take a commanding 113-stroke lead in the team standings into the GVC Tournament final round scheduled for Monday, May 4 at Holiday Ranch Golf Course just south of Cuba.

During opening-round action on Belle’s home course, Kelhen Struemph shot a round-low score of 77 over 18 holes while teammate Gage Vandegriffe was close behind with a 79.

Avery Craigmiles followed with an 81 to go along with a round of 87 from Kaegan Kinsey and a 103 from Tucker Harris.

Over in Viburnum last Tuesday, Struemph nearly duplicated his opening round by carding an 18-hole round of 78 in Iron County.

Kinsey turned in a around of 83 followed by Craigmiles and Vandegriffe with 18-hole scores of 85 each.

Harris also shot an 18-hole round of 104 at Viburnum.

Currently with a team score of 655 through two rounds, Belle is out in front of Steelville (768) and Cuba (836).

Bourbon did not have enough for a team score during round one while Viburnum also did not have enough golfers to qualify for a team score last Tuesday.

During last Wednesday’s Russellville Invitational Tournament at Redfield Golf and Country Club in Eugene, Belle placed fifth in the team standings with a score of 330 behind California (307), Tipton (309), Centralia (309) and Fatima (323).

Individually, Craigmiles led the Tigers finishing in a three-way tie for sixth place carding an 18-hole round of 76 along with Lyle Marty (Centralia) and Brock Battles (Tipton).

Struemph finished in a five-way tie for 11th place shooting a six-over par round of 78 along with Eli Hutchinson (South Callaway), Ethan Wunderlich (Eugene), Anthony Russell (North Callaway) and Grady Martin (Tipton).

Kinsey tied for 24th shooting a round of 83 along with Tipton’s Nicklaus Wolf.

Vandegriffe finished in a five-way tie for 46th shooting a round of 93 alongside Wyatt Sidebottom (Stover), Jaiden Clutter (Tipton), Landon Bracht (Tipton) and Keaton Engelbrecht (Eugene).

Harris also tied for 55th shooting a 96 along with Stover’s duo of Dylan Brodersen and Gavin Welpman.

Playing in the Waynesville Tournament Monday, Belle will also see tournament action this week in Dixon today (Wednesday) and in Sullivan on Friday both with 9 a.m., tee times.
