BELLE — Infrastructure work continues on multiple fronts across Belle as contractors rehabilitate sewer lines near Fourth and Johnson streets while another crew advances construction on Alvarado Avenue.
Workers with Midwest Infrastructure Coatings were at the intersection of Fourth and Johnson streets on May 21 applying a specialized lining system designed to restore and protect existing infrastructure.
Nate Deaton of Midwest Infrastructure Coatings said that crews first clean the surface with a power washer before drying it with an industrial heater.
“We’re going through, and we’re cleaning with a power washer to get that surface clean, and then we’ll dry it with an industrial heater,” Deaton said. “And then we take our multi-layer system. It’s a polyurethane foam and then a polyurea.”
According to Deaton, the process begins with a layer of polyurea, followed by the buildup of polyurethane foam before the system is sealed with a final protective layer of polyurea.
Deaton said he and his brother, Lucas Deaton, serve as crew leaders on the Belle project and expect to remain attached to it through the end of the month.
Asked about progress, Deaton said the project remains on schedule.
“I think this job’s going really well,” he said. “We always work our butts off, and it’s paying off.”
The work at Fourth and Johnson is part of the city’s broader infrastructure improvement efforts aimed at maintaining and upgrading critical utility systems.
City officials noted that construction activities also continue along Alvarado Avenue as crews work through additional phases of the infrastructure project.
Public Works Director Darrin Guinn was on-site at Alvarado Avenue and First Street, where he said that things are going according to plan.
“These guys are doing a great job,” Guinn said. “We’re right on schedule.”
Residents are reminded that Belle remains under a boil advisory until further notice and should continue following guidance issued by city officials until the advisory is lifted. The advisory remains in place while infrastructure work and related system improvements continue.
