OSAGE COUNTY — A Belle man has been charged with felony domestic assault following an alleged incident Feb. 23 at a residence in Osage County.

K.C. Wayne Newton is charged with third-degree domestic assault, a Class E felony, according to court records. The charge alleges Newton attempted to cause physical injury by striking a domestic victim in the face. The alleged victim and Newton resided together, according to the complaint.

According to the probable cause statement filed by Cpl. Aaron Bell of the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified on Feb. 24 by a family member of the victim regarding a reported domestic incident that occurred the previous day. The reporting party said the victim had sent a recording to a friend stating she had been struck in the face and also with a shower curtain.

Deputies made contact with the victim, who said she confronted Newton about cheating after going through his phone, at which time he struck her on the right side of her face but did not cause injury. The victim said she and Newton had lived together for 18 years. She also said Newton has a history of aggressive behavior and that she has been subject to previous incidents of domestic violence from him. When questioned about the video she sent her friend, the victim said she had not been hit and expressed fear of retaliation if Newton were jailed.

A copy of the video was obtained and submitted into evidence.

Bell said Newton exited the residence while he was speaking with the victim. When Bell attempted to get Newton’s side of the story, Newton allegedly became “hostile and argumentative.” Newton was arrested and transported to the Osage County Detention Center.

Bell cited prior domestic assault convictions, in Osage County in 2009 and Maries County in 2013, when requesting a no-bond warrant.

A no-bond warrant was issued Feb. 25. Newton was served with the warrant Feb. 25 and remains in custody.

Newton appeared by telephone for an initial appearance Feb. 26. Bond was denied, and the case was continued for a bond review hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. March 3 before Judge Sonya Day Brandt.
