BELLE — Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) welcomed residents to its annual charity barbecue May 23 at the downtown four-way stop in Belle, serving food and providing information about veterans’ services and VFW membership opportunities.
The fundraiser featured half chickens, pork steaks, bratwursts and a variety of homemade side dishes prepared by local volunteers. Community members stopped by throughout the morning to purchase meals and support the organization’s efforts on behalf of local veterans.
In addition to the barbecue, VFW members were available to discuss Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare services, disability benefits and other resources available to veterans. Representatives also provided information for veterans interested in joining the local VFW post and becoming involved in its activities.
The annual event serves as both a fundraiser and an outreach opportunity, allowing veterans and community members to connect while helping support programs and services offered through the local post.
The Belle VFW regularly participates in community events and veterans’ initiatives throughout the year, including Memorial Day observances and efforts to assist former service members in accessing benefits and support services.
