Competing back on Saturday, July 25 during track and field events at the annual Show-Me State Games (SMSG), Vienna’s Alex Wieberg left Columbia’s Battle High School as a three-time event champion while also placing third in another.
Wieberg claimed gold medals with first-place times of 12.55 in the 100-meter dash, 26.20 in the 200m dash and 58.23 in the 400m dash in the 13-14 male division.
He also placed third in the high jump in the 13-14 male division clearing 1.51 meters.
Fellow Vienna area athlete Grace Barnhart also earned a SMSG silver medal clearing 2.23m in the 13-14 female division pole vault.
Barnhart was also fourth in the 13-14 female division 400m dash with a time of 1:13.16.
Former Belle High School runner distance runner Adrien Hoehne claimed a pair of silver medals in the 19-29 male division with second-place times of 1:26.55 in the 400m dash and 13:23.62 in the 3000m run.
Liberty Rowden added to Vienna’s medal haul with a gold, silver and bronze medal in throwing events among 15-16 year-old females.
Liberty’s best showing came in the javelin where she topped the field with a gold-medal winning throw of 29.59m.
She also collected a silver medal in the discus with a second-place throw of 26.86m while she also placed third in the shot put with a toss of 8.86m.
Making up half of the top four in the 15-16 male division pole vault, Jason Ware earned a third-place medal clearing 2.90m while Cooper Kleffner also placed fourth with a clearing height of 2.59m.
