Advocate wins Missouri Press Awards

MARIES COUNTY — The Maries County Advocate, Gasconade County Republican, and Osage County Unterrified Democrat staff were in St. Louis on Saturday to accept awards for 2022 community coverage from the Missouri Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.

The Maries County Advocate accepted seven awards, including third place in General Excellence and Best Overall Design.

The remaining five awards included:

• A first place win by Vienna staff writer Colin Willard for Best Coverage of Military “Veterans Honored.”

• Staff received second place for Best News or Feature Special Edition “Ag Times.”

• Roxie Murphy received third place for Best Feature Story “Polish Boarder” and Best Coverage of Government “Belle Police Contract.”

• Jacob Warden received third place in Best Feature Photograph “Help Lift Pig.”

The Gasconade County Republican received three awards:

• Dave Marner received second place in Best News Photograph “Firemen Rest” and Best News or Feature Obituary “Bob McKee.”

• Will Johnson received second place in Best Sports News Story or Package “State bound Bailee Dare.”

The Osage County Unterrified Democrat received three awards, including:

• Neal Johnson received first place in Best Sports Photo “Sliding In.”

• Jacob Warden received third place in Best News Photograph “Bigfoot Flys.”

• Edward Gehlert received third place in Best Feature Photograph “Spider on Head.”

The Gasconade County Republican, Maries County Advocate and Osage County Unterrified Democrat extend their sincere appreciation to communities they serve for the opportunity report these events.
