Entering the MSHSAA Class 2, District 9 Softball Tournament last week as the sixth seed, Butch Gehlert’s Belle Lady Tigers had nothing to lose.
Falling behind 4-0 after two innings, Belle could only manage a third-inning run before seeing their season end at the hands of Eugene’s Lady Eagles 9-1 last Wednesday night at in Westphalia.
In that top of the third inning, Belle started a two-out rally when Cheyenne Struemph singled and scored on a Faith Gieck RBI single cutting the Lady Tiger deficit to 4-1 against Eugene.
Allowing single tally marks in the third and fourth innings along with three in the fifth, Belle saw their season end with an overall record of 8-10.
For their efforts against Eugene, Belle’s trio of Baylie Cadwallader, Brittany White and Struemph earned All-District honorable mention recognition from coaches in the district tournament.
