Wayne Rogers 1930-2025

Wayne Rogers, 95, St. Charles and Hazelwood, and formerly of Cooper Hill, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital.

He was born April 29, 1930, the youngest of five brothers to the late Nora May (Jett) Rogers in Cooper Hill.

He was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Sterling/ Bay High School.

Wayne was longtime member of the Dunn Road Chapel and Florissant Churches of Christ.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1952.

Wayne was united in marriage to Mildred Dolores Shanks of Belle in 1951. They were happily married for 74 years. Mildred, who survives, resides in St. Charles, Missouri. 

His working career included McDonnell Douglas Corporation initially as a quality assurance inspector before becoming director and then superintendent for design development, flight testing and production of military aircraft including the F-4 Phantom, F-15 Eagle, F-18 Hornet and AV-8B Harrier. Wayne retired after 34 years of service.

He enjoyed doing all of his own mechanic work himself as a DYI man. Fixing his own cars, doing his own home repair and even mowing his own yard into his 90’s. His faith in God was strong and he hardly ever missed a Sunday service and could often be found studying the Bible. Wayne loved fossil collecting and arrowhead hunting with an extensive collection of both. He was a kind and giving man generously supporting numerous Christian organizations.  Wayne will be missed greatly by his family and those that knew and loved him.

Wayne is survived by wife, Mildred; son, Steven Rogers and wife Stephanie of Yardley, Pa.; granddaughters, Alyssa and Kareena Rogers; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle. Interment was in Countryside Memorial Gardens near Owensville, with full military honors.
