Sweeping a Show-Me Central Conference (SMCC) tripleheader from Calvary Lutheran’s Lions earlier this month, Vienna’s Eagles and Lady Eagles looked to do the same last Monday night against the visiting Tuscumbia Lions out of Miller County.
Seeing their JV Eagle and varsity Lady Eagle counterparts post victories earlier in the night, Chandler Harker’s Vienna varsity Eagles looked to defeat the second species of Lion in a six-day span.
Leading 30-22 at halftime after a sluggish second quarter offensively, Vienna nearly doubled up Tuscumbia 43-24 in the second half helping them to a 73-46 SMCC victory over the visiting Lions.
Tied at 4-4 at the 5:25 mark of the opening quarter, an Alex Zimmer free throw sparked an 18-0 Eagle run capped by a Hunter Schwartze bucket giving Vienna a 22-4 lead with 2:02 for the opening frame.
Taking a 24-9 lead into the second quarter, Vienna saw Tuscumbia double them up 13-6 in the second quarter before going into halftime with their aforementioned eight-point lead.
Trading points throughout most of the third quarter, the Eagles finally began to pull away with an 11-3 run over the final 2:50 of the opening period of the second half.
Opening the fourth quarter on an 11-4 run, Vienna pushed their lead over the 20-point mark at 63-39 with 4:50 remaining.
Calling blackjack, Zimmer led four Eagles in double figures with a double double of 21 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Teagan James also posted an impressive stat line of 18 points, five rebounds, five steals and five assists.
Days removed from being crowned Homecoming King, Elias Miller finished with 14 points, four steals, four rebounds and two assists for the Eagles.
Schwartze rounded out the double-digit scoring quartet for the Eagles with 12 points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds.
Waylon Lenning and Eli Crum each chipped in four points to round out the scoring for Vienna against Tuscumbia’s varsity Lions.
Cayden Patterson led Tuscumbia with 19 points and five rebounds while Damon Whittle also reached double digits for Tuscumbia with 17 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.
KC Curler’s Vienna Lady Eagles used a 12-0 run midway through the first half to take a 23-11 lead early in the second quarter before going on to a 63-25 victory over Tuscumbia’s Lady Lions.
Finishing one steal shy of a triple double, Ella Hollis led three Lady Eagles in double figures with 19 points, 12 rebounds, nine steals, five assists and two blocked shots.
Aubrey Schwartze also threw in 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals, an assist and a blocked shot for the victors from Vienna.
Jaedyn Schell rounded out Vienna’s trio of double-digit scorers with 10 points, three assists and two steals.
Madison Weeks added seven points and three assists to go along with four points from Delaney Schwartze.
Marissa Hollis added a third-quarter 3-pointer while Aubrey Reeves rounded out the Lady Eagle scoring against Tuscumbia with a third-quarter bucket for two points.
Maddie Blankenship led Tuscumbia 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Tim Simmons’ Vienna JV Eagles opened the SMCC tripleheader with a 39-17 victory in a two-quarter contest.
Bryce Ewers led the JV Eagles with 14 points, six steals and three rebounds.
Adding six points apiece were Wyatt Wulff, Tyler Hallahan and Eli Crum.
Dylan Long chipped in five points and three steals to go along with two points from Talan Reeves.
Cayden Patterson led Tuscumbia’s JV Lions with six points.
Last night’s (Tuesday) tripleheader at Crocker was postponed due to inclement weather and road conditions.
