Seeing Belle take the freshman and junior varsity basketball contests last Tuesday night, Vienna entered varsity action looking to deny the host Tigers a tripleheader sweep on their home floor while at the same time retaining the Battle of Maries County trophy.

Leading 28-13 after one quarter, Vienna outscored Belle 22-4 closing the first half with a 50-17 lead.

Able to keep Belle at bay on their home floor, Vienna went on to take the varsity portion of last Tuesday’s tripleheader with a 79-42 victory.

Entering the game 59 points away from 1,000 points for his career, Eagle senior Trey Snodgrass led all scorers with 34 points.

Bayrd Vanscoy also reached double figures scoring 12 of his 19 points in the first half.

Max Steffen made it three Eagles in double digits scoring seven of his 10 points in the first quarter.

Spencer Magner came close to making it four Vienna scorers in double figures finishing with eight points.

Danniel Casey added six points while Benton Patton rounded out the scoring for Vienna with two points in the fourth quarter.

Keith Rose led Belle scoring nine of his 12 points in the second half.

Thomas Lingo and Sam Willis each added seven points followed closely by Justin Lingo with six points.

Kaiden Robertson scored all five of his points in the second half in addition to four points from Cole Loughridge.

Will Doss hit a second-quarter free throw for one point rounding out Belle’s scoring against Vienna in varsity action.

In the middle game of last Tuesday’s tripleheader, Belle and Vienna’s JV squad faced off.

Tied at 16-16 after one quarter, Belle outscored Vienna 46-22 the rest of the game to post a 62-38 victory over the visiting JV Eagles.

In the first-quarter draw, Baylar Smith led Belle with 11 points while Sam Rowden paced Vienna with eight points over the first seven minutes.

Thanks to eight points each from Glayden Woodruff and Lukas Smith in the second quarter, Belle took a 41-21 lead into halftime.

Tanner Bock scored all five points for the JV Eagles in the second quarter.

Lukas Smith continued his hot shooting in the third quarter scoring 11 of Belle’s 15 points helping the JV Tigers to a 56-28 lead after three quarters.

Rowden scored four of Vienna’s seven third-quarter points to pace the JV Eagles.

In spite of being outscored 10-6 in the fourth quarter, Belle went on to take the JV contest 62-38.

Lukas Smith led Belle and all scorers with 21 points.

Rowden led the JV Eagles with 12 points.

Kicking off the tripleheader was a two-quarter freshman game between Belle and Vienna.

Trailing Vienna 13-12 after one quarter, Belle outscored the Eagles 20-7 in the second quarter for a 32-20 victory.

Adding to his 21 points in the JV game, Lukas Smith led Belle and all scorers with 19 points. Woodruff almost made it two Tigers in double figures finishing with eight points.

Alex Zimmer led Vienna’s freshmen Eagles with nine points.
