VIENNA — Vienna Police Chief Shannon Thompson recently published press releases about some of his department’s recent activity, including a house fire last weekend and a burglary at a local business in February.
According to one release, at approximately 12:30 on March 2 a VPD offficer on patrol noticed smoke coming from a residence located at 305 S. Coffey Street. A Freeburg firefighter passing by also noticed the smoke and assisted the police officer with attempting to locate and alert the resident inside.
The resident was sleeping but awakened and exited the residence. Maries-Osage Ambulance District personnel treated him for minor burns and smoke inhalation and released him at the scene.
The Vienna Fire Protection District (VFPD) had been immediately dispatched and arrived within minutes of the call. VPD, VFPD personnel and the Freeburg firefighter rescued two dogs from the inside of the residence.
In addition to the aforementioned agencies, Freeburg Fire Department and a Maries County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the call.
“Maries County Emergency Dispatch handled this call well as they received and dispatched other calls for service during this incident, including two other fire calls in the county immediately following this incident,” Thompson wrote.
In a separate release, Thompson documented a burglary investigation that occurred at the B&B Car Wash on Feb. 11.
The investigation concluded that someone gained entry to a coin-operated wash bay and the business’s mechanical room. The intruder took an estimated $500 in cash and coins along with power tools. The estimated damage to the property exceeded the stolen amount.
During the investigation, several local businesses provided surveillance footage that helped to identify a green pickup truck that entered Vienna traveling southbound on Highway 63 at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 11 then returned north on Highway 63 at approximately 3:20 a.m.
Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to contact the Vienna Police Department or Maries County Dispatch at 573-422-3811.
