Vienna Chief of Police Shannon Thompson has reported the Vienna Police Department has recovered a vehicle that was stolen from Union.
A Vienna police officer located a gray 2014 BMW passenger car parked on Fourth Street between Olive and Chestnut Streets on Dec. 23. The officer noticed the front license plate was not the same as the rear license plate.
Continuing the investigation of the vehicle, the officer determined the front license plate was registered to a car leasing company, and the rear plate was registered to a couple from Belle, neither of which was registered to the BMW. The officer ran a check on the vehicle’s identification number (VIN), which indicated no owner registration information was listed.
As a result, the Vienna PD had the vehicle towed from the street and stored with a local towing company. During the tow inventory, Thompson said the officer found paperwork that possibly identified an owner and turned it over to the towing company to assist in owner retrieval.
The Vienna PD was contacted by a detective on Dec. 28 with the Union Police Department who reported the car had been stolen from Union, but had been recovered by Vienna PD before the owner had reported the theft.
